TechCamp Taipei

Disarming Disinformation through Technology, Design, and Communication

Participants from

Burma; Indonesia; Malaysia; Mongolia; Philippines; Thailand

Description

Tackling disinformation and cultivating media literacy have emerged as a shared priority between the United States and Taiwan, as both societies are targets of both internal and external disinformation campaigns. The ubiquity of social media and its use as a platform to spread disinformation has increased the difficulty of addressing this challenge. Social media influencers and members of the tech and NGO communities are uniquely situated to meet potential consumers of disinformation where they are: online. TechCamp Taipei aims to train and inspire emerging voices in the region to use their platforms to educate the public on how to be savvy news consumers. In addition to learning about various tools and strategies that help counter disinformation, participants will also work with technologists and subject-matter experts from around the world to develop solutions that help reduce the reach and impact of disinformation.
