Description

The U.S. Department of State in partnership with implementing partner Kathmandu Living Labs, is hosting a hybrid Global TechCamp Reconnect in Nepal. The hybrid event will address the issues of shared global public health challenges, including those related to dis/misinformation surrounding COVID-19, and will provide a deep dive into the topic of countering mis/disinformation throughout South Central Asia.

The virtual component of the event convened global TechCamp alumni and regional SCA youth and civil society leaders to increase digital technology capacity and improve media literacy to reduce the reach and impact of public health disinformation. The virtual sessions are intended to include participants from across the world, while the in-person event in Kathmandu will focus on addressing local and regional challenges in and around Nepal, making for a powerful program that’s both local and global.

The in-person event will bring together 50 youth and civil society leaders from Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Pakistan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka and five global TechCamp alumni, to address shared challenges with the types of disinformation that can threaten democracy. Participants will partner with local and international trainers and experts to learn new skills and to apply technology solutions to the challenges they face in their communities. The three-day workshop will increase digital and media literacy and provide participants the tools to communicate more effectively and to counter misinformation and disinformation.
